Door striker threads stripped out

On my 62 C10, one of the 4 bolts that holds the striker to the cab is stripped out. It feels like there are two plates inside the cab that are threaded for the bottom or top two bolts. Is this plate welded to the cab or just held in place by the bolts (and maybe a wad of body "dope", putty type sealant). I can put a longer bolt through the plate and use a nut, but if I can remove the plate I can either replace it or use an insert to restore the threads. Anyone had one of these out before that can tell me how it works? Thanks

Yes, I’ve seen that video, thanks. I’m really just trying to figure out if it is worth taking apart to try and repair the threads. If the plate comes out, it should be an easy fix. Otherwise I’ll leave it alone and live with using a nut on a longer bolt.

I believe the plates sit in a pocket. I think your idea of using a helicoil is a good one, they've never let me down and probably allows easier striker adjustment vs. a nut and bolt.

I removed the bottom two bolts and tried to get the inside plate out. It would not budge. I left the two top bolts tight so the adjustment wouldn't change so it appears that the threaded plate is welded to the bracket that goes between the upper and lower bolts. I think if I removed the top bolts, the entire bracket would come out. I'll attach a couple of pics for anyone that is curious..

Are there any spot welds on the front side along the area where the two pins are on the inside? Pics will help. Or maybe just drill it out and use a nut on the backside for that one bolt.

I haven’t taken the outside plate off to look - trying to keep the truck drivable until the snow flies. I think you are right that the two “pins” on the inside are welded to the cab and let the plate move around to adjust the striker. This must be why guys are doing the door latch post conversion.
