Thoughts on frame color ???
Hey everyone... Any thoughts or input on frame color. I was just thinking of going semi-gloss black for powder coating. Then got to thinking about potentially another color, silver or grey, etc...
To bring you guys in to my thinking, I am thinking a Sixties White (possibly stock 67 truck white or early 60's Corvette or Impala white) with the interior metal also white with either Red or Grey (dash, seats, armrests, door panels) interior. What are your thoughts? Just go basic black or maybe a medium or gunmetal grey... or what have ya'll seen. Does anyone have any examples of a non-black painted frame? I saw an old post of TRKFRK of his powdercoated frame and I liked it. but, just needing some input. All input is accepted... Thanks

LOL, thanks Jason...I'm a fan of red frames. Do something different than everyone else if you can.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
This is just me talking, I'm in to semi gloss black frames and all undercarriage pieces painted or powder coated the same. I don't get painting your frame a bunch of contrasting (or non contrasting lol) colors. I suppose maybe if you are building a show only rig where you are going to have folks crawling around under your rig. Ok, not even then in my garage haha.
But we all have different tastes, good luck on your decision.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
I went black Por 15 on my truck, but its more of a stock style build.
A darker silver/gray would pop with the white something with a little metallic. You would then paint everything on the chassis to match I would think.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
I think GM used Satin Black. Ford used a Semi Gloss Black. I've heard the Ford Black was a little shinier.
After a year on the road under a working truck, you probably can't tell the difference.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
My truck came with a grey powder coated frame, which I think it goes well with the orange body. But it sits pretty low, so you don`t even see the frame. I think a gunmetal grey would look cool. Going darker will hide dirt and imperfections, especially after some years. I`d want to keep the frame color subtle, not obvious. You can`t go wrong with the semi-gloss black.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
I prefer a nice semi gloss black. Especially on a driver.

I have seen many Youtubers using 'Steel It' in the past couple years. It looks nice.
I don't know anything about TMR Customs, but here's a link to their website where people have reviews and some pictures of things they have sprayed. https://www.tmrcustoms.com/products/...eel-gray-1002b They also have it in black.. https://www.tmrcustoms.com/products/...ray-1002b-2240 |

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
I prefer the stock GM look. Bead blasted frame with Rustoleum Satin Black rattle can paint, no primer. Done three trucks this way. Holds up great for a weekend driver in Arizona. Might not do so well on Midwest salted winter roads. Looks great and easy to touch-up as needed.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
My .02 is that a decently detailed, cleaned and painted frame looks good. I can't see very many colors, so black is my choice.
I always wanted to do one in body color, though.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
Black, if you want the truck to stand out and not the frame

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
This is probably what I will go with. I'm just curious if something someone posts a picture of here would change my mind if I see it.

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
Agreed... That is a good point.
I am not building a show truck or anything close to it. I would desribe this as cloesr to a rebuild or reassemble than anything else. I am staying with semi-gloss black powdercoat... ...and that is my FINAL ANSWER

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
What I said obviously only applies when you can actually see the frame. In that case it holds absolutely true. Your truck would look as good with any color frame. Red was a good choice for your overall vision and what the truck gets used for, even if you get a peak at the undercarriage. As it is, I have to take your word on it. Other colors "can" look good, but as a rule black is the best choice across the board

Re: Thoughts on frame color ???
If you're frame off.
You may consider the bottom of the bed floor in a rally silver or something similar Or if it's wood a light stain. Lightens up the bottom a bunch.
