3/4 drop before and after pic's please.

After 10 years of ownership I am finally going to lower my truck and have decided on a 3/4 drop using drop spindles and shackles .


This is how it sits now but would like some before an after pic's of others trucks to see what 3/4 achieves.

Shackles alone won't get you 4" of drop. Hangers & shackles will get 4" of drop. A flip kit will yield ~5-6" depending on how many leafs are in the spring pack & is technically the less labor-intensive swap vs a hangers/shackle job.

Yeah shackles are included in the kit I am going to use.

Front hangers require knocking out the rivets which is a PITA.

This is my old '78. Rear spring perches were re-located to drop the rear and I have 2" drop spindles up front with factory springs. This is probably a 2/3 drop.

I've had good luck just cutting them with an air chisel.
If your frame paint is still good you can grind off 90% of the rivet and punch it out with the air hammer.

Knocking them out is the easy part. The pesky fuel tank in your way is part of it as well.

If you don't intend to carry any weight in the bed, you can do shackles and remove leafs from the pack to get 4" of drop. That's how the previous owner did the rear on my truck and I'm around 5" of drop in the rear without a flip kit. I don't carry anything so it's not a "problem" for me. The ride is good though you can tell it's soft. Good shocks are a must no matter what you do. If you don't have sway bars, get at least a front. The larger the better.

I use it to haul motorcycles contantly so will need to do it with that in mind.

I would recommend what others have already suggested since you want to retain load carrying capability.

Keep in mind that it's overall diameter of the wheel/tire that matters most. I'm on 20's but have taller tires than what most run it seems. My overall diameter is a little over 28". I have slosh mild tubz in the front with only a 4.5" drop so that I could actually have suspension travel without riding on the bump stops or hitting the inner fenders. With a 3" drop, you could run a 28" tall tire and not have issues except on the worst of bumps. Go with a 27" tall package and it'll be sure to clear. The only problem then, is does it fill the well the way you want? I wanted the tops of my tires tucked period. Having the rim come close to the well, like the black truck pictured, is an added bonus and helps make the truck seem lower. With 20's you'll have move of a gap between the well and rim. Make sense?

The point being, think about what you want and work towards it but keep in mind how you'll affect other areas. Be careful being "tricked" visually. This black truck you posted is not low. Yeah, it looks great, but if bringing the tailgate lower to the ground to help facility loading a bike is a goal, you'll make very little progress following that truck's recipe.

A easy way to do shackles rivets.

Is to drill the head off with a 9/16 bit, and a cutting oil. After first drilling a starter hole. Then a basic air punch can knock them out.

If you have porting bits. You can shave the head down, and then drive it out.

A top quality air hammer with good bits can straight cut them off.

A big hammer like 32 oz or above can drive the rivets out once the head is cut.

Drilling a 3/16 to 1/4 inch hole in the rivets allow them to collapse in on themselves making driving them out easier.
