Need some engine help
Hey guys,I need some advice on the 350 sbc.I was on my way home tonight(about an hour drive)and about half way home the truck spit one time then when i pull in the driveway it tries to die on me.Only way to start it is to hole the pedal to the floor,it wont idle.It is a fairly new 1406 edlebrock and a new engine.I have3 had trouble with dist, coils but have changed all of them.I havent done anything to it lately so i am stumped.Any ideas on what it is?Thanx

that's not a lot to go on... are there any new noises, either while driving or idling... did it behave normally while driving, as far as acceleration and power???
when you say it spit, do you mean it backfired or did it stop running for an instant...??? are you running points or hei...??? will it stay running in neutral/park if you give it gas...???

Is it getting to much gas? checked for a MAJOR vacuum leak? a small back fire could have blown off a vauum cap or a gasket .

What about some bad gas? Ya, check all the plug wires and make sure they are all connected. I would also pull the #1 spark plug and see if it is running too rich or lean. The plug should have a slightly tan tip if it is burning good.

as cold as it is..could the fuel line be freezing? a little water in the gas can freeze and block passages in the carb

A long shot but check your fuel lines for any small holes or the rubber hoses for cracks that could be sucking air.

Make sure your distributer holdown isn't loose and your hei isn't turning. It could be you need to adjust the carb because of the cold weather also.

I had the float stick on my 1406, but you should see black smoke rolling out of the exhaust.
