Heater Blows here but..............

My heater blows out the defrost on the dash, but will not blow anywhere else. The lever that moves the cable hooked to the lever that you can see from the seat on the front hardly moves at all. Any suggestions as what to do.

Also, what temperature of thermostat will allow the truck to become warmer faster?

THanks

Ron

Your problem with the heater more than likely is the diverter box gate.

Mine has AC and had the same problem.

The gate in the box is plastic with a rubber seal around it. Breaks near the pivot point.

I bought a new one for about half price.

Try:

As far as the thermostat, I believe the stock is around 180 degrees...........

Both of those places only go back to 1980. What now?

I guess I can take the thing apart and see what I find.

your engine can only warm up so fast no matter what thermostat it has in it. the thermostat just controls the max temp the engine can get to

Sorry, forgot to mention........

They do go back farther than 1980, just need a part number which is on the broken gate.

Give them a call, I bought mine from one of those. Can't remember which one.

I still have the old one from my truck, if I can find it.

Just ask for the diverter box for the year you need along with if its for an AC or non AC truck.

They should be able to help you.

I think the cost was around $50 for a new one last year....

If your t-stat is stuck open then your engine will not heat up as fast. Just go buy a new one. 180 degree seems to be pretty common. I think the 160 degree ones are a little to cool.

Put up a wanted thread on the parts board. I'm sure you'll find a very nice diverter box that someone wants to sell by the end of the day. I know of a couple people here that have 6 or 7 on hand.
