Cab mounts yet again
Front cab mount on my 72 C10 has a large washer on top as well as a large square washer on top of that. It's oem and never been changed. Of course the kits only come with a puny washer for the top. Can I assume the square one is a factory shim? As a matter of fact I'm going to reuse the washers and bolts. They are in excellent condition. They came right out with no rust. In fact the front bolts weren't even tack welded.

Re: Cab mounts yet again
GM did not use any washers on top of the front top body bushings. What you are seeing is body mounting shims and they were a shim as required item so you could possibly have none to several depending upon the shimming required to align body lines and door gap spacing.

Yes, keep and reuse the round factory washer’s and the square shim’s that are on your truck now.
They will help put everything back to where it was or close to we’re it was before the mounts wore out. As I’m assuming that’s why your changing them out. If the bolts were not welded to cab floor then I would believe that the mounts have been changed out at some point.

Re: Cab mounts yet again
Thanks guys. I've owned this 72 since it was a pup. Bought it in 73 for 3200.00 with 18k miles from a new car dealer. So, I probably paid too much!
Nobody has changed the mounts before now so they were not factory welded. I will re-use the shims. |
