4 speed to automatic
My 68 1ton has a 4-speed manual transmission with 5.38 rearend. Because I'm losing the use of my left leg, I'm unable to operate the clutch. I know that a Turbo 400 trans is a good fit but, I would like to find an overdrive automatic that would handle heavy loads.
Any good suggestion? Thanks, in advance.

Re: 4 speed to automatic
A 4L80E is basically a TH400 with overdrive. Looks like you can get a stand-alone controller for $300+. The 4L80E has a .75 overdrive so that would put you right about 4 in overdrive with your 5.38 rear gears. Not too bad a swap I wouldn't think. Flexplate, starter, radiator, cooling lines, crossmember, driveshaft. Have to figure out a shifter. Floor shift is probably easiest.

I’m looking to go the other way I want to put a Muncie or Tremec behind my 327 in my 68

Re: 4 speed to automatic
No need for a controller in the 4L80Es anymore. You can go manual valve body (manual shift w/o need for a clutch).
