C10 tailgate saver.
Added what LS Fabrication calls a tailgate saver to my 72 today. Idk that it serves any purpose other than I think its cool. Heres a video of it in operation.

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
my first thought - you took the hinge off a toilet seat.
second thought - why? But sure, pretty cool.

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
That would drive me crazy. When I open my tailgate, I want it open NOW.

Now if I can just get it to activate by swinging my foot past the hitch.

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
I think there is a thread somewhere on the board where somebody took something out of a late model gate hinge and adapted to our style trucks, it works the same way. The kit might even use the same parts but makes it ready to go. Personally I like it.

I like it. I too have a newer GMC that has this as well.
Thanks for sharing Dave

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
I fell in love with these trucks when they were new. I still love them the same. When I want to load the truck the first thing I do is lower the tailgate before I pick up what I need to load. How do these "save" a tailgate? I never noticed mine needed to be saved from anything but backing into a post with the tailgate down. You know, that distinct u-shaped dent you see on the top edge of tailgates

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
Yep, it's a "my first truck" thing . I noticed this before it ever happened to me, so I made sure I never did. I was the same way about hitting my thumb with the hammer when I first started carpentry

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
Might be a good idea for people who are older, or who have been injured and have lost/less arm strength. Those tailgates can be heavy.

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
I put one of these on mine. I like it. Dont use the truck as a truck though. Also replaced the metal arms with cables and used polymer bushing trunions. To each their own

I have those trunion bushings as well. I love how quiet the gate is now when being used.

Re: C10 tailgate saver.
I have the trunnion kit on my truck. I bought them from brothers. I am going to put cables on the truck as well. My father has an OBS tailgate that I’m gonna get the cables from. LS fab sells cables for our C10’s. I believe they’re $21 a side. Shipping is a bit slow with them being up in Canada though.
