axle vent

is there supposed to be anything installed in the vent hole on top of a full floating rear end? like a hose or something? mine just has a hole. seems like a great way to get dirt in your rear:p

There is just a short metal hose coming off the top of the axle and the rubber hose slips over it. I have a pic if you will pm me your e-mail address I will send it to you as the board is not being picture friendly lately.

Just a few days ago I saw one of these openings with a small filter attached to it...any purpose for that?

How did I happen to see it? I was checking out a slammed axle protruding up through a notched frame and a cut open bed.
