Shift lock issue 98 sierra
I have an issue lately where sometimes it won't release the shift lock for the auto shifter. Most times, I have to push the pedal to the floor, sometimes I have to push it several times before it releases. I know the brake light switch is working correctly, the brake lights come on the moment I touch the brake pedal. What else could be causing it?

Re: Shift lock issue 98 sierra
The lock solenoid is up under the dash attached to the column, right side of the column IIRC. Try unplugging it to get the solenoid to disengage.
When the park/neutral position switch is in park and the brake switch is closed (foot off the brake) the circuit to the solenoid is completed to lock out the shifter.

Re: Shift lock issue 98 sierra
You can pop it off of the linkage too if you don't want to bother with it.

Re: Shift lock issue 98 sierra
That's what someone did with mine, so I left it.
