Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
Gentlemen,
Long time listener, first time poster - well on this part of the form anyway. I am at the point in my build - 66 C10, 2006/7 LM7, T56 - where I am looking at where to mount my ECM. The engine came with a Speartech/PCI harness and, as this is my first LS swap, don't want to start messing about with it too much. What I would like to see is pictures of the modules in situ, in the engine bay. I did start stripping back the sheathing on the loom to separate the fuse/relay/TAC from the ECM connectors to give me a little more room to play with but, it soon became apparent, that to get any meaningful extra cable length would require de-pining components, untangling cables etc. if I wanted to mount in the cab. Before I just screw the lot to the radiator support - what did you to make it slightly less of an eyesore..... P.

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
My C30 is up behind the dash ,outta sight..not much other choice of where to stick it..
My IH is mounted on the inner firewall...I made a cover to hide it..dash on IH to small for hiding My next one will be under the seat..this is where I tried to hide both of above , but harness was to short to accomplish that.. Heres a pic of the IH cover I made

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
I have mine mounted on the inner fender. This is apparently where it was originally mounted and when I had the harness modified, they put it back in the original location.
I would have liked to have mounted it inside somewhere, but I was not about to lengthen all those wires. |

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
If you install Vintage air the location, in the picture, is an option. I too struggled with the ECM location. Mine was a modified stock harness and this seriously limited my options. If my cabling was long enough I would have mounted it between the core support and the grille.
Others have installed the ECM under the seat. My friend drilled the recommended hole size thinking there was no way it was going to work. By starting on the inside of the cab he was able to push all the wiring through without over sizing the hole. Cheers |

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
Mr Mongo,
That is rather wonderful - I am in awe of the skill sets that forum members have. If I was to try that it would end up with half a milk carton over the ECU and a sheet of 18 gauge in the scrap bin.... JoyRidin - I am thinking that this might be an option as a mounting location. I will retire to the shed this evening and have a measure up. Thanks for the response's P.

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
I made a bracket that hangs down behind the dash to mount the TAC module closer to the pedal. Computer is under the seat.
My upholstery guy wished it had been up higher, but you cant see it with duct work installed. |

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
Maybe someone who used the Speartech harness can chime in with the length and direction the tail of the harness goes. I used a thinned stock wiring harness on my Gen IV 5.3 and pretty well had to mount the pcm where the harness wanted to lay. I got it as far forward as I could on the inner ds fender. The air filter sits over it to half assed hide it. The fuse/relays are lower on the inner fender. (Sorry it's upside down)

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
@bigmoe that is a very clean engine bay you have there, nice!
@MT65 I would love to mount mine behind the seat but that is not going to be possible. After stripping the horrible sheath off this is what I have, might be enough to move it inboard. Also, there was mention of the correct size hole to drill in the firewall, question is, what is the right size. P.

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
I put mine under the passenger seat. I used Blazer seat tilt brackets in case I need to access it for some reason. Check out my K10 build thread in my signature. I have some good pictures.

backside of the radiator support. if i don't point it out, 99% of folks never see it.

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
I hid the ECM and fuse block behind the glove box. I had to section the glove box liner to make a bit more room for the ECM. I like to hide as much wiring as possible. Pic of my 68 C10 with an LS6/T56 combo.

Re: Where did you mount your ECM and TAC?
I mounted mine on the back of the core support along with a custom fuse/relay box.
I'm able to centralize the power distribution and include relays for the headlight power upgrade. I just hope the Amazon box holds up....? all tidied up

First time was ecu behind drivers headlight and Tac on the fire wall next to booster. Now they are both under passenger seat.
