Brake light wiring

I bought a set of led tail lights and the tail light sockets were in rough shape on my 70 K10 so I bought a set of aftermarket sockets. Couldn’t get the plug to engage so I took out the socket, clipped the plug and just going to hardwire. Now I have 3 wires, one brake, one tail light/signal and one ground. The brake light I believe works through the signal light wire so do I twist the brake and tail light wires together to connect to the one wire going to that side. There is a wire in the Painless harness for a 3rd brake light I could use but I’d rather not have to run a separate wire all the way back. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

You said that you have "one tail light/signal" wire. That's not correct. Those are separate wires.

Wires are:
Yellow -- Left side turn/brake
Dark Green --Right side turn/brake
Brown -- Tail lights/license plate lamp
Light Green --Backup lights

Also, you will need a flasher designed for LED bulbs.

No ground wire at the light socket/housing. The ground is through the housing contacting the body. Tail light circuit is separate.. Left and right are tied together within the harness along with the license plate light... Brake/turn signal are the same circuit coming out of the turn signal switch, one for each side.. This means three wires (excluding back up lights) going to the back, but only 2 at each light socket.

Go to the ELECTRICAL forum and download the proper wiring diagram for your truck.. The diagram traces indicate the wire color and gauge..

I'm not much of a photo "bug".. My daughter and son-in-law have a small collection but they live 4 hours away.

Those wheels are genuine old school, probably over 20 years old. Weld doesn't build wheels like these anymore.. They were made from two stampings welded together with an "insert" placed between the two halves before welding the halves together.. The "insert" provides reinforcement inside the "star" area. The wheels are incredibly light weight.. Today, Weld machines the wheels from a billet.

I got it, thanks for the help. I was confused about the brake/signal. I thought the lights had separate wire for each
