Need Spal fan recommendation
As part of my LS swap I am swapping over to an aluminum radiator and want to put 2 electric fans on it. Looking to get 2 Spal 12" puller fans and would like to hear what you guys have used and are happy with.
I am looking at a pair of these.VA10-AP50/C-61A. They are 1226 CFM each. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B091R...21RK7XAU&psc=1 |

Re: Need Spal fan recommendation
I went a little different way than the norm with the electric fan. Single 19" PWM fan. https://www.vintageair.com/custom/pr....php?pn=280481 Should be able to control with the E67 ECM on my motor. If that does not work I have other options. Fan fitting starts at post #208 in my build thread.

Re: Need Spal fan recommendation
I used Derale 16836. They are spal fans if I remember correctly. It never gets over 190 and the 2nd fan rarely even goes on. They are louder (can hear them at idle), only negative.

Re: Need Spal fan recommendation
I purchased a #SP460 Dual 11” Spal Fan Kit.
Works great on my truck with an LS1 motor. If you want the keep the noise down try this system: I wired them so the low speed runs both fans at 1/2 speed. High speed it both fans at full speed. This can be done with three relays. Cheers. |

Re: Need Spal fan recommendation
I've used Spal fans on all my LS swaps. I've great success with a single 16" fan and no shroud. Pic of the Spal fan one of my Wrangler LS swap. You can buy the the "L" brackets from Spal that slip into the frame of the fan.
Pic of my 68. Because I'm cheap I buy the generic LS swap radiators. I buy the biggest one I can fit. My 68 has a AFCO. My Jeep has a Griffin. The Wrangler has about 14 years on it with no issues. Having said that I'm in central MN and don't have AC on either vehicles. On/Off controlled by the ECM. On at 215. Off at 195. |

Re: Need Spal fan recommendation
My swap is not the typical LS swap, rather it is a 454 BBC.. I installed an aluminum radiator along with the Derale twin 12" fan system. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-16927.
For control, I wired both fans through separate relays. One relay receives it's' "turn on" signal from a Derale controller with the sensor in the radiator. https://www.summitracing.com/tx/sear...20%28Search%29 The other fan's relay receives it's "turn on" signal from a switch mounted in the AC system drier. This switch allows the radiator fan to cycle only when the head pressure of the freon reaches a certain pressure, not every time the AC compressor cycles on. I live in east Texas where the summer time temperatures very often reach triple digit numbers. This complete system totally cured all my overheating issues. |
