It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

In my neck of the woods its getting close to upcoming Car/Truck shows. What do you need to get done to your truck before the shows hit your area?

I have to...

1) Install my NOS Sears Cruise Control
2) Install factory dual horns (truck initailly had these)
3) Check out factory ac.

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

1. Tighten my tilt steering column
2. Fix the Rockers
3. Install the Courtesy Lights
4. Replace the Carpet
5. Change out the Bed wood
6. Change out the old Turbo mufflers for the Cherry bomb straight thru mufflers.
7. Sand it down, Seal, and spray the Primer
8. Paint, Color Sand and spray with clear coat.
Other than that not much.
Seriously though, I’ll get done what I can, when I can, and take her to shows in whatever stage of the process I’m in.
Next month we start Show Season here around Pigeon Forge, so wherever you are enjoy all the shows in your area.

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

Where to begin...

Clamp and or secure all fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wires to frame.

Weld in patch to close up hole where clearance was made for driveshaft.

Finish welding up exhaust.

Go over and verify all bolts torqued to specs.

Bolt cab back down to frame.

Install factory wiring harness, and eliminate any circuits not needed with new motor.

Incorporate stand alone harness to factory harness.

Install Dakota Digital gauges.

Install Vintage Air AC system.

Get motor running.

Remove all door components, clean, lubricate, and re assemble with new seals and window felts.

Install carpet.

Reupholster bench seat.

Assemble front sheet metal.

So, yeah, I'll only be brining myself to the shows this year... no truck to show for me yet.

This great news for me, custom10nut...I'll be traveling to your area to meet my new granddaughter from April 7th to May 7th and hope to catch some car shows while I'm there (staying in the Fountain City area of Knoxville). Unfortunately, I won't be driving the Beach-Burban on our road trip but will still enjoy being a spectator!

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

Geeze...There is always stuff to do on my truck. I haven't got mad enough at it to do any of it yet this year...LOL!

I did spend a couple of hours detailing her yesterday (Spring Cleaning, as it were) for a car show today.

With arthritis in damned near everywhere, that chore was plenty enough. The lower truck cleaning and wheels is the toughest. Knees have to have a lot off padding. And to top it off...I fall down real easy, its the getting up that is hard.

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

I JUST registered for my first show sched. for July 8th. Stuff pending:

1. Bumpers, not sure what to do about those, I suspect they'll be the only parts on the exterior that aren't OEM.

2. Hub caps. The guy found some to restore for me. On that note the wheels need to be finished yet, and I need new tires.

3. Carb. tune occurs this week.

4. Alignment soon

5. A/C charged

6. Install the NOS grilles and headlight bezels. That will be a good day.

7. I just received the bench seat cover, it was on order for a year. The seat has to be restored. When that's installed I can install the door panels and arm rests

8. Flooring

9. Bath

^^^ That's me, too. Except I'll wash it up and put the YOM farm truck tags on. I've wanted to make wood 2-rail sideboard painted red with white pinstripe like on old Omaha Standard grain trucks to go with the farm truck tags. Or, I'll slap the ladder racks on and a wooden Babcock ladder, if not already on for a job I'm doing

Car / truck shows ... Maybe next year , Project creep took over years ago , Now I'm in the panel alignment and block sanding prison in my own garage it's all that's left before paint and assembly , The chassis , driveline, suspension , wheels and tires , all new wiring , all new glass . All new leather interior It's to the point of finishing the paint work and assembling all the parts I've been collecting/hoarding for years it's taken a long time but I'm not in any hurry and when it's done I can say I built it 100% myself . It's the last one I'll build so it has to be what I want when it's done .

Yeah the car show flyers are coming out now. I just go to cruise-in/cars & coffee gatherings. Not interested in what any "judge" feels about my stuff. Whatever your preference, enjoy.

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

1st Car Show...1st Place.

It was a beautiful day for classic vehicle AND people watching. Seems to be more people qualifying as antiques. My kids call me The Ancient One.

I'm not one to sit around the truck while folks are looking at it. I engage them in conversation and answer their questions. If they have young'uns with them, I often offer to let them take a picture sitting in the truck. Some are bashful but, all their faces light up sitting behind that steering wheel.

I will probably do a few of the smaller shows 'til it gets hot. I don't do the BIG shows anymore. To damn much walking during the voting phase with 150 - 300 vehicles.

Sorry about the flipped pics.

I need to get my bench seat pulled so I can finish laying out my holes for the buckets and console and then cover the seats and put it all in. Luckily I can hop in the Camaro as a car show filler till the truck is done.

Re: It's getting close to Car/Truck shows ... what needs to be done?

Took the 72 C20 out last weekend and came home with a class win. I mainly go to the small shows to hang with friends. The only large one I go to now is the C10 Nationals. Its at the Texas Motor Speedway which is only a few miles from the house.
Since I drive the C20 just about weekly it stays fairly clean. You never know when you might stumble across a small show going on.
