Re Windshield glass
Someone gave me two green tinted window glass for my 51 gmc 100. When I matched them to the old Glas they were just a little bit larger . Is there any wiggle room when installing them? Thanks

Re: Re Windshield glass
Well, I am not a glass guy and I did my own successfully but I would not want the job to be any harder than it was, so larger glass would worry me.
On the other hand the old glass may be small. measure the thickness of the center of your rubber then eyeball the glass in the frame. |

Re: Re Windshield glass
Do you mean the thickness of the sheet of glass or the cut size vs the window frame? pictures run the Internet
3/8" more is a lot more in either case |

Re: Re Windshield glass
If you hold it in the frame does it leave any clearance for the rubber?
The rubber is basically H shaped and you could measure how thick the centre of the H is compared to the space around the window. |

Re: Re Windshield glass
You might check with a full service glass shop about having it sanded down to match your old glass.

Re: Re Windshield glass
there are a couple good youtube videos from one of the window seal manufacturers on how to install glass in an AD cab. Worth watching and they will give you some idea of the fit.
3/8 difference seems like a lot, I wonder if there used to be different styles of aftermarket seals available. |
