pic's of auto xmember location?
Hello everyone I am in the process of rebuilding my engine and converting my 3 speed into a 700r4. I have already built the 700r4 and i am working on the engine now. The problem I have is I don't know were to put in the auto crossmember. I know i have to take the stick crossmember out and i think i know were the auto one goes, but there are a set of holes aready in my frame. do i use them? if someone has a picture of where there crossmember is located that would be great. Ohh yeah the engine is a 350 and in the stock location, and i will be putting in a 700r4 (but i think that it is the same location as a turbo 350)
thanks for everything

Yes, use the holes that are already there. Don't worry about which tranny you have, I'm pretty sure that all the automatics go in the same place.

My truck was a 4 speed 6cyl originally. Then it was a V8 with a turbo 350. Now it has a 700R and I had to drill new holes for the cross member.

what I did was slide the xmember into the frame and push it back enough so I could jack the trans up and bolt it to the motor, then supported the trans with a jack so I could slide the xmember in place and loosely attach the rear trans mount so I could take measurements and make marks for where to drill the new holes...
Takes all the guess work out of it....

What i am trying to do is have the crossmember in so i can bolt the engine and trans together and put them in as a whole. thats why i was looking for pictures, and maybe measurments. but i guess i am going to have to wait untill i have the engine done.
67chevemall-Yes i am fine, my 3 speed had major problems with it, went threw a clutch every 3 months and just didn't like being run hard. I felt as though the auto would give me more consistant times at the track, and with the 3 speed i had to lift the engine to get the clutch past the xmember (pain in the @$$). don't get me wrong i love sticks and my next project is going to be a stick, plus i drive an 89 blazer every day and that is lifted with an sm465. and thank you for the luck... i am going to need it with this truck Randy70c-10: do you have a pic of the holes to use. i guess the one of the owners before me put some extra holes in, so the crossmember can fit into 2 places, one more forward and one more rear. thanks for the help sorry to rable on everyone

yeah I'd wait until I could drop it all in and eyeball it on my own setup vs. using someone else's measurements.... it's a no brainer and you're guaranteed to do it right the first time.

i swapped from a 3speed to a 350 auto also. i had to take the stock crossmember out, as you probably know the 3speed is a lot shorter than any auto. anyway, the new crossmember just bolted right up, the holes were already there. when i get home tonight, i will see if i can get a good pic for ya

700 rear trans mount is roughly 1.5 inches further back than a TH350, so the same frame holes won't work...
if I remember correctly, the 2 holes that would be for the rear of the xmember on a th350 application ended up being the 2 front ones for my 700, requiring me to drill new holes for the rear xmember bolts only.... so, for my setup at least, I could use the stock holes for the front of the xmember, and only had to drill for the rear xmember holes. This was for a smallblock mounted in the stock location on a short stepside truck originally equipped with a 6 cyl and muncie three speed column shift trans... Hope that made sense....????
