Can you remove throwout bearing fork?

Can you remove the throwout bearing fork with everything else still intact(other than the rod that attaches to it)? Or must the clutch assembly be disassembled first?

I think the bellhousing can stay.
Pull the trans out and then see if it can be removed.

You are 1) not gonna fully understand my odd situation, and 2) Think I'm completely nuts.

I am installing an NV4500 trans, but the way Leon does it: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=673588

I can't tighten the top trans-to-bell bolts unless I remove the bellhousing, so I--just yesterday--installed the NV4500 but I was only able to tighten 3 of the four bolts. I actually used studs for the top two.

However the stud on the drivers side is absolutely completely inaccessible due to the clutch fork.

Sooooooo, if I could remove the clutch fork with everything else intact, I would maybe be able to install a nut on the stud and slowly tighten it.



I need to fully install the NV4500 so I can take measurements and get a new driveshaft made. I don't plan on driving the truck with 3 poorly tightened bolts. I also need to rework the trans hump cover, so I can fit that as well with the NV4500 installed.

I would like to test drive the trans, and I thing the 3 bolts would be strong enough for a very short and gentle test drive down the street to see if it shifts well or grinds. But that's another story.


First things first I need measurements.

Have you got a pic of where you’re trying to tighten the bolt/nut.
Maybe a crowfoot wrench will work.

No I don't, it's so constricted that I really can take a pic to even show my dilemma, I think I'll have to leave the fourth fastener off.
