"New" truck: '89 K1500
Sold the '86 due to rust problems. The gerbils died in the S10 so it has been parked awaiting a new engine. . . and I've been stuck in my commuter car (2019 Nissan Versa). After enough of that fun, I started truck shopping.
Desired criteria were regular cab/8' bed/2wd: I need it first for a move, and prep for selling a house. Wound up finding the K1500: two out of three ain't bad. Love having a 350 again, love the ground clearance and the 8' bed, could live without 4wd. RPO sticker is still in the glovebox but I'm going to have to shoot a pic and tweak it in P'shop to read them. Bed has minimal rust inside--weird for a Nebraska truck. Driver's door held closed with a strap: need to replace the hinge pins/probably striker/maybe the latch. Needs a new muffler, right now the exhaust ends where the muffler used to connect. Odometer is dead, spedometer works fine. And the usual million little things on an old truck. Tire situation needs addressed ASAP. Currently has 31x10.5x15s, with at least one having a broken belt. I think it has 8" rims. I'd rather have highway tires, maybe something like 235-75R15s. And no spare. Plan for the weekend is to (hopefully--weather permitting) change oil and filters, bleed brakes, replace battery cable ends and battery, get the toolbox out of the bed. Maybe scrounge a pressure washer and blast the engine compartment etc. Not sure I want to tackle the door yet. Remotely possible I'll replace the muffler today or tomorrow.
