79 K10 4WD Shop in Houston

Hello again, folks. I just picked up a 1979 K10 that’s pretty solid save for the fact the front ring and pinion need to be replaced. It’s a full-time 4WD truck that I need to get on the road quick, but I don’t have much experience with 4WD. Can someone point me in the direction of a shop here in Houston that they trust?

Thanks!

Appreciate it! I ended up taking it over to Houston Drivetrain on the North Loop. They’re going to look it over and tell me how many mortgages I’ll need to take out to get it roadworthy again.

Well, I’ve got a quote for the front end. Basically everything new including axles, ring and pinion, seals… the whole shebang. Total parts and labor would be about $4,000. Ouch!

there's a place on Shepard and Tidwell on the northside that has been there forever. If you take 45 north get off at Tidwell go west right before you get to Shepard there's a street to the right that runs at an angle. take it they are right there on the right. I always had great luck with them.

If you think you might want to change the gear ratios, now would be the time since you have to replace one anyway.

I would definitely get a 2nd opinion on that price and the need to replace everything. Or price a ready to go complete front axle.
