Question Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

While I am still hoping to find a good used bezel, I am doubtful. So I been looking around for repo's because the sticker I used kind of sucks. Most places that have these for sell have horrible pictures and of course I haven't seen one first hand.

I got a seller to send me some close up photos. I know the forums are going to reduce the image quality but perhaps they are good enough for opinions and thoughts: pretty good, good enough or rubbish. This is from a seller off eBay but I believe looking at the original photo you can get it from various places.

Thanks in advance to you guys that have seen these Cheyenne Super bezels close up :-)

It looks really good to me. I used to have originals rechromed and apply the woodgrain, but those are long gone. I have had good luck with the repos.

Re: Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

Well, that is one vote for it looking good. Thank you for you input!

I was thinking the same myself but I really haven't anything to judge that on (since I never seen one up close).

Edit:
Just read your profile Bio
"I'm 70 years old. I bought a 1972 Cheyenne (Orange and white) new and currently own a 1972 Cheyenne Super that I have owned since 1988. I did a frame off in 1989 and won "Best of Show" at Fort Smith, AR in 1990. I've put 30,000 miles on it since."

Gee, after reading that - your approval on this repo seems like gospel.

I didn't go back through the thread, but my opinion is they are over the counter replacements.

I went ahead and bought it.

@yote1234 Those silver painted ones are odd looking to me!

The silver painted dash bezels look like crap. This was GM just being cheap, and thought it would be "good enough" for a replacement for a even then old truck. They still charged full price for half assed stuff though!

Re: Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

Yeah, the silver I don't consider N.O.S. since they are not what came in the trucks. N.O.R.S. is what they are, just like all the bar coded GM parts folks pass off as N.O.S. They are N.O.T., Not Old Taiwan, same as all repro, but GM has the right to pout their part number on them and put in a Genuine GM box. No bar codes used on packaging in 67-72. They were already in use internally. In fact, GM was one of the first to implement them.

Oh, and I agree with Other Larry. For me it was a '72 Highlander off the OK Used Car lot in '73 and at least one ever since

Re: Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

I got that reproduction Wood Grain Bezel in today from the eBay seller and just installed. I am not sure if I said this before (because I have had this cluster off a number of times) I really hate that oil line! I swear it takes me more time to get the fitting started than to cycle the whole cluster in and out!

Here is a photo, though lighting isn't so good at night in the garage.

I don't remember where I bought mine. It's been in for three years, and it's peeling just a little bit at one of the corners. My oldest son is really into woodworking, and I've thought about having him make me a really thin veneer out of real wood.

I have a feeling this one will do that too after some time but I hope it isn't anytime soon!

It's not too bad. It's mostly next to the headlight switch.

That looks like heat damage - lots of direct sunlight perhaps? But it isn't to bad, especially that you have had it three years.

To me, it looks like the knob for the headlights was tightened up a bit too much, and pulled the decal.
All the stretch lines look like they are turning upwards...which would be the case with tightening the knob.
It would be very hard not to over tighten that knob, as I myself, like to have the panel pulled up against the dash, and without the decal on there, you can tighten it to the point of almost cracking the instrument panel.

Rich's original guess is right - its from exposure to sun and heat. It took a couple of years for it to get that way. But it is a Blazer, and its natural condition is wth the top down...

Re: Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

A trick I learned in our shop when we installed decals on our service trucks was to spray over them with clear coat. So, when I installed my gauge bezel decal, I sprayed it with clear coat. That was over ten years ago, and it still looks new.

I did get lucky and landed that. It was not a bargain but does have a chrome surround. I’m adding that to the k20 here soon.

Re: Repo Cheyenne Super Wood Grain Bezel - Opinions?

I thought I'd take a photo through the sliding window - came out pretty good with the iPhone's flash.

So the bezel is the repo and the glove box wood grain I got off eBay that was from a 72 Cheyenne Super. Door wood grain came with the truck when I bought it :-)
