What is this engine part.....

.....and why is it capped off?
This engine came out of my '71 c10. This is how it was from the PO. If it's still good, gonna clean it up and use it on my rebuilt. Dang sideways pic again.

previous owner must have installed a electric fuel pump somewhere on the truck.

Nick, they may have capped it at the start of storage to prevent bugs and junk from getting in the pump. Here we have what we call dirt daubers they plug up all kinds of stuff if we let them

I'd think the pump running dry would shred the diaphragm, but maybe if you squirt some MMO in there and cap it you can keep it alive as a backup :shrug:

Since it looks newer, My WAG is that he installed a electric pump, but wanted a new mechanical one if the electric failed.
