Stepside vs fleetside
My truck is a step side, and I love the look.
Lately I have been dreaming of having a fleet for a more functional bed. Has anyone ever swapped, and was it worth it? |

Re: Stepside vs fleetside
I also love the look. I have a step and it was harder to find than the fleet.
Not judging at all. My day job is actually as a decision analyst for a global energy company, so I suspend my own judgement to help my clients get the most of what they want within their value system. It sounds like looks and functionality are high values for you. Here's a way to think about it... How much would someone have to pay you to switch to a fleet for the rest of the time you owned it if there were zero change in functionality? How much would you be willing to pay for the functionality improvement you could keep the step look? Also, what would you want to haul that you can't haul now? Don't steps fit a 4x8 sheet of whatever?

Re: Stepside vs fleetside
Also, super cool GM history reported on engineers at western proving/testing facility converting/building at the GM facility with GM parts, a step side short bed truck they drag raced locally. Super super fast and it had a big block installed, very high performance rare engine borrowed from a GM MI storage facility. The truck developed a very big rummer mill about a mysterious “white step side truck”, killer fast, nothing like the new truck appearance it projected.
There is more intrigue to this story, once GM top executives were aware of a Hot Rod Magazine article, with pictures reporting on this truck. Hope I reported this correctly, best I remember. The step side has great GM performance history in part, it can bring the heat! Photo below is from a later Hot Rod Magazine, I believe, memory fading. Final rummer, truck was crushed, or a truck like it was crushed ……… Well there is one more, about stuff in a basement somewhere………. Last edited by aotte1; 09-15-2023 at 10:51 PM. |
