3 Point Seat Belt Bolt Torque Specs.

I did a past forum post search for torque specs for the 3 point seat belts install and all I found was “snug” and “goodentight”
For the B pillar mounts are 2 supplied shoulder bolts, just snug till it bottoms out?
For the floor, I am reusing my OE bolts.
I have chased and cleaned all the threads prior to the install.
Is blue Loctite 242 recommended?

Remember that torque specs are not necessarily determined by application; mostly by bolt size and thread pattern.

Find the bolt size and thread pattern of the bolts, then google what their safe torque value is. Don't use yield values because these bolts are not Torque-to-yield fasteners.

If the only value is yield, then subtract 20% and torque to that. Loctite application is a matter of opinion.

Here is what I have come up with.

The floor bolts on my 1972 C10 are 1/2-13 Course thread.
Grade 8, the torque value is 80 ft lbs minus 20% = 64 ft lbs.

Shoulder B Pillar bolts are 7/16 Fine thread.
Grade 8, torque value is 58 ft lbs minus 20% = 46.4 ft lbs.

Hope I did the math right

I installed a set of aftermarket shoulder/lap belts in my 71 GMC. I was shocked just how difficult it was to remove the original bolts. GM must have used some type of product to prevent the bolts from losing up. I looked closely and it was not from corrosion underneath the cab.

You’re right.
They were tough to remove during demo.
If I remember correctly there was some thread residue (loctite?) when I cleaned/chased the bolts and floor mount threads.

I always thought belt bolts were difficult because the bottoms were exposed to road debris/tar/corrosion. ???
Just a hypothesis. Maybe they did use some kind of thread seize.
