I need Original 8 Lug wheel ID Help. - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Trying to find out what wheels were original equipment on my 72 3/4 Ton 4X4 Cheyenne Super.
Were they 16"? Or 16.5"?
I want to buy some original wheels for my 72, and want to make sure I buy the correct ones.

Does someone have some good pix?
Better yet, a factory Part Number, and then tell me where to find this # on the wheel?

I don't know if these shots will help but they're off my '69. The R number is identical on all 5 wheels - 16.5 x 8.25.

Now if someone can confirm that they were the same wheels used in 69, as in 1972. . . . .

I'm geussing they probably were the same.

i am pretty sure that 16" and 16.5" wheels were both used, but 16" was not a popular tire size back then, so they were discarded.

The 69 wheels will not fit the front of your dad's 4x4. If they are true 69 wheels the centers are too small for the disk brakes. The origanal wheels would have been split rims. There is a set up here on the 72 3/4ton 4X4 I just sold. They even have J.C.Penny tires on them..lol Whens the last time you saw a set of those?? Anyway I bet the new owner would sell them cheap! He is looking at another set of mags that I have here also to replace them with. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Were all the (correct original) wheels for the 72 3/4 ton 4X4 split rims? I dont think I want split rims.
Maybe I'll have to go a different route and install somthing different.

72 4x4s, 3/4 ton, came either way. I've had both but got rid of the split rims. If you want more info and have access to a GM parts book for those years look under section 5.803, wheel assembly.
