Am i the only one ?

I know i can't be the only one who puts their truck up for the winter. when I say put up I'm talking about 5 mos. of not driving or working on the truck because it's to darn cold and salt on the roads .
All you guys laugh that live in warm places but this sucks.
I was wondering how do you pass the time with out your truck? So all you warm weather guys keep posting pics of the progress your making, it's going to be a long winter......

Get a beater 67 - 72 that is beyond practical help. Then you can enjoy it in the rain and snow, not really care too much bout it, and you'd have a place to put all the nice but not nice enough pieces as you take them off the 'good truck'.
Besides, you know when your truck is done, you'll cringe at the thought of loading it up with rocks and bricks...enter POS beater.
Beaters are neater in many ways.


All that being said, i wish I had the means to park my truck...but that would leave me walkin to work or even worse...the city buss system.

Two things. Work short periods of time and dress in layers. It must be so nice to live in a warm climate. I just got done dissasembling the front end of my truck. I've got it in a storage shed in which I can go in and work on it. And no, it's not heated. I was wearing three pairs of socks, long johns, a pair of nike shorts to keep the mid section warm , pants, shirt, sweatshirt, jacket and hat.

All I can say is BBBRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait untill I have my heated workshop someday

just to confirm your thinking about warm weather climates...
yep its great nothing like working in your shop with the doors wide open from 7 p.m to 10:30 everynight in a shirt and jeans

Here's a some pics of some holes being welded up on the bed of my truck. They're of the tie down holes, and the ones for the barden (farm) bumper mounted to the side of the bed. Will be doing the rockers, cab corners, a few small spots on the floor boards, and doors before she will be ready for paint. Will be adding more pics as more progress is made.

Like nike says just do it, I block sanded my truck out side in the middle of winter, well it had to get done, yeh I'm crazy!!, just don't tell the wife your board, she'll find lots for you to do, right now I'm tiling the bathroom

no mine is a daily driver.and it does look nice.no rust.but i go to the car wash twice a week and spend a buck spraying it down.my wife thinks im stupid for doing that,but i say it will save more in the long run.

I had my 67 out of the garage only twice this summer. I drove it total of 40 miles. I need to do some work on it but I don't have time. So its basically been stored for a year.

My 70 & 72 just went into there new shop for the winter just the day before the ice hit us. The 72 won't be out till March and probably summer for the 70.....

Thanks for the repies guys . I moved from from Little Rock, Arkansas 4 yrs. ago and miss the short winters . It takes the wind out of your sails when it is cold 5-6 mos out of the year.

A beater truck would be great but the next thing you know you want to start fixing it up, you can't stop the maddness.

I have a two burner propane radiant heater that I use in the garage. As lomg as the window is cracked, you won't kill yourself. Can't paint, and have to be carefull with sanding (sanding dust is explosive if there is a lot), but it takes the chill out of the air. If it's 10-20 outside, it will be about 50 in the garage. And no, my garage isn't insulated. If it was, it would be 70 in there. I start the heater and let it go for about 1/2 hr, then I can go out. On a 20 lb grill tank, it lasts about 40 hrs. Once it gets warm, I turn off one burner, and it will last even longer. Best thing I ever got. Was about $85 at Meijer (Wal-Mart for the rest of the country). I hope to have the garage insulated next year. The nice thing about the radiant heat is it's quiet, and since it warms the objects in the garage instead of the air, you can work on metal without freezing your fingers. I disassembled my cylinder heads last weekend, and by the time I went out, the head was warm. Just pointed the heater at it (10 ft away).

My truck is in storage for 8 months out of the year because of school and winters. It really sucks because I always want to drive it, but to pass the time I jsut visit the board often, and search the internet for ideas and stockpile parts until the day it comes back out. Plus there's always work to do on my car. Like the radiator that I replaced 10 months ago has to be replaced again because it got so cold outside that it cracked.

I drive mine in rain, snow, salt, and mud. Of course it isn't anwhere near as nice as yours but it is my only ride so i have to.

I feel for those that live up north, the winters are brutal (I know, I'm originally from WI). But the heat and humidity of the summers here keep me inside with the A/C on high, and I longingly look out the wndow and wish I could get some work done without drenching my cloths and stinging my eyes with sweat.

DAMMIT!! Now you got me longing for SUMMER when I can have the doors open, stereo blasting then suddenly realize its 10pm and wonder if the music is too loud while I'm working on one of my vehicles in shorts and t-shirt.

Yeah I would hate to be up north without a garage to work in. Although it's not cold bad down here, if you don't have a garage, the wet and dampness keeps me from doing much with my truck. Like DTLilly said too, sometimes I think the summer is worse. 2 minutes and I feel like I'm in the original Airplane movie with a faucet loose on me. Can't see or even hold onto a wrench. Guess that's the Yankee...I sweat at the thouhgt of heat! I'm hoping to have my road worthy again by next fall. probaly still be as colorful as Longhorn man's Longhorn, but at least I'll get to drive it again.
