longhorn finally on the road..
dropped the front and now need to work on the back, but at least I am driving it again. This board was alot of help.

You got it lookin sweet, and the lo profile tires on 16 inch truck rims is somethign I have always wondered.

It is the same as the green one but from about 4 years ago. I will try to get a link to some more pics as I finish it. It felt good to get the plates out of storage a pass safety inspectiion. Is the gas guage doing this because of bad ground or could it be the circuit board? Only the saddle tank is hooked up. Maybe when I get the tank behind the seat installed it will work?

No fuel tank. That's why.
You did an awsome job on the truck. I am kinda suprsed that your inspection station didn't say anything about the tires. Hawaii is kinda funny about that kind of stuff. |

Longhorn I think they are only hard on us visitors over there. Once I got a few friends(locals) over there it was no problem on inspections. Thats a nice looking truck and I would dare to say probally the only Longhorn on Oahu much less oldtown, GOOD JOB!!

What method did you use to drop the front........and what are you going to do to the back........?

Steven, I had a few e-mail transactions with another Longhorn owner that lived there back in '99. He told be that he did a flip kit on his rig and when he got it inspected, they told him to go home becouse of a few things done....the flip kit required a C-notch in teh frame, as long as the frame was modified, he was told he'd never get to drive it on a public road.
By the time I got in touch with him he had welded in patches and ground the welds smooth enough to shoot undercoating in there and look fine. He was also failed for having a smallewr than stock steering wheel and some other garbage I can not remember now. |

dropped the front with 3" coils. Iceman helped with this. Many mixed opinions. It seems great so far. When I pulled the coils I found the ball joints were shot . I replace with moog $280. Kind of an expensive drop but needed. eight lug spindles are $$$ and could could not see spending the money when I allready had front disc. I
have not had a chance to get it to the alignment shop, but it steers great. This truck has a factory stabilizer. I am also waiting for my nitro slammers to arrive. The coilover shocks seem to be working fine but might break off the mounts over time. I am going to use 2" shackles in the rear. I have allready pulled out the overload and one leaf. I am going to pull two more. I dont want to do a flip. If it does not go low enough, I will go with a higher profile tire in the rear. I think the safety depends on the inspector. Here is icemans 3/4 ton Forgot the rims are from a newer suburban. split the rear and added a 1 inch band to make it a deep dish. I would go with 2" but the only shop over here that could do it only had 1" rings. I may put them on the front and go with 2s on the rear. The rear caps are from a dually. You can get everything you need on the mainland from pete paulson or stockton wheels...way cheaper.r here. Wheels are heavy to ship so I did it here. more pics here http://www.noscade.com/chevy.htm

I got the truck in November '99 and put about 2000 miles on it before tearing it apart for a "quick" paint job. I had moments when I wished I never took it apart. the south pacific is great, but if I kept driving the truck, it would probably have quite a bit of rust by now. It came from a dry climate and had quite a bit of bare metal. I am still looking for areas to under coat. thanks for the cruise update jaydawg. I will be gone in feb but may see you in March. Make sure to introduce yourself if you see my truck. Just got western chasis 2" lowering shackles.. gonna install them today. Still have tons of things to do. I think my water pump is leaking from the weep hole...so I might order a stewart pump. Still need alignment..finish sound deadening and interior(first I am trouble shooting any leaks). polishing front grill shell....window tint..air gap intake...new wood bed..502 crate motor..whoops , I am daydreaming. I am sure this will be a never ending project...that is what makes these trucks fun!
