Which to replace first...Rockers or Cab Corners?

I need to replace both, rockers and cab corners, but I am wondering which I should replace first?

I'm doing this now and it really seems like rockers first is easiest.

Someone will say the opposite though, lol.

I'm sure you're right. It is easier to remove the doors then than the bed though.

You can actually do the rockers without removing the doors, if you like. I’m doing it that way so I can keep checking that they close properly, the rockers are structural.

For the cab corners you can unbolt the bed and slide it back, you might get away without removing it completely.

Depends on how much work you need to do. Sometimes it’s easier to just blow it apart and take it all apart.

Good info Dave, thanks. Might be a good time to replace cab mounts too. So much depends what I find when I take the outer rockers off. I have had the outer and inner rockers and cab corners on the shelf for years...just not looking forward to the job, but the main thing is I use the truck 2 or 3 times a week and dread being without it.

I removed the doors to give me room to work, I did need to take them on and off several times during the process to check fitment gaps etc. before final welding.

I did my cab corners after finishing the rocker panels by loosening bed bolts and sliding bed back about a foot because my cab corners were not that bad.

I help at a body shop a couple days a week. It's beyond my skills but I've watched rockers and cab corners being replaced on a number of late model trucks. They take the doors off. Then they cut the rockers off. Most of the time the inner rockers are toast also. Rough fit the rockers. Then reinstall the doors to check gaps. Then take the doors back off and fit the cab corners. Once the cab corners are roughed in the welding starts. Body work the welds and prime and paint. Then the doors go back on for good.

When you do your rockers be sure to put the door seal on. When I did mine I didn't put the seal on when I was checking the fitment. Turns out the lip that holds the door seal is a bit outboard more than it should be. So now I am trimming and beating on it so the door closes easily.

You really cant replace a cab corner with the flange on (which is 99% of the time rotten too if your cab corner is or your rocker) without removing the outer rocker.

1. Remove outer rocker
2. Replace cab corner
3. (anything else, such as inner)
4. Replace outer rocker

Outer rocker can come on and off (with spot welds removed obviously) by slightly opening the door and dropping the back out at an angle.

I was lucky and only had to replace sections of my rockers, cab corners and kick panels. I am surprised how many completely remove inner and outer rockers without adding bracing first. Personally, I only replaced the rusted portions. The new stuff is not as good as the old metal IMO.
