length of camper special /longhorn bed
Hello,
I am in the process of putting a 69 gmc on a late model frame and running gear. What I am wondering is how much longer is the bed of a long horn or camper special? I am hoping that this would keep me from having to cut the frame and modify drive shaft length, as well as the tank locations and brake lines and the list goes on. Another option would be has any body lenthened a fleet bed? Have a great weekend !!

It may be of interest to note the wheel base of a longhorn is 133", as opposed to 127" on regular longbeds.

However, the wheelbase on a 73& up is more like 130 or 131. I think this is why he is looking for this info.
All you would have to do is relocate the rear end back a couple inches (said like it is a simple thing to do) and you'd be set. One thing to look at though, you'll need to do a custom lift kit for the cab. The 73 to present do not have flat frames, the rear section of the frame kicks up which would jack the bed up too high to look right. |

Thanks everyone!!
I appreciate your help on this! I went out and measured everything, and once the wheel wells are centered I should have a one inch to 3/4 inch gap between the cab and the bed. I will still need to make sure the height of the cab off the frame is correct to the bed, but I feel better knowing I won't need to cut the frame. Once I get going on this I will post some pics of the process. once again thanks Mike
