PS Pitman Shaft Seal Orientation 1972 GMC BB

I just watched a video of a pitman shaft leak repair and they showed that both seals to be oriented with the flat side of both seals down towards the ground. I am getting ready to install them tomorrow on my 1972 GMC with PS, with 402 engine. Anyone do this before? Thanks in advance!

Yup, done it quite a bit. Fun times getting the old ones out. Orientation is like you said. Getting the old ones out---get a small drill and CAREFULLY drill a couple of holes through the seal (180 apart) enough to screw a long sheet metal screw into them use a pair of wire cutters to get leverage and pry it out. Does that make sense? There may be a flat washer in between the seals so a small magnet and screw driver will also be needed.

The seal can be pretty easy to pull but if you have luck like me nearly impossible. I spent about 4 hours attempting removal. Ended up completely disassembling and it was still a bugger. There is a very good write up on this forum I used as reference. I'll see if I can find and post the link. Good luck. Hope that seal pops easier than mine did.
