Bill,
I thiught It would bring about $600.
My wife thought I was crazy for buying that one from you!
I showed her this one on ebay, and she was quite happy with the one I'm buying from you! Great timing I'd say!

Next thing you know, people will start buying trucks for thier radios instead of the other way around....

I could never bring myself to pay as much for an accessory for a truck as I could pay to get an entire new truck.

I don't even have that much money into the '70 total, I probobly get close and most likely over with the new tires but I usually don't count stuff like that.

No freakin' way! That's $500 more than I paid for my whole truck! I simply can't fathom how any single piece of these trucks could command a price that high. Yes, it would be neat to have a working, original AM/FM radio, but for that kind of money... well, let's just say that there's a long list of things I'd use that kind of cash to buy before I spent it on a radio.

Needless to say, I'll be keeping a very sharp eye out for one of those goldmines in the future.

And to think I was the high bidder at one time at $9.99 with no reserve. I bet the seller is smiling right now!

For $1,600 I could buy a nice new CD head unit (that sounds a lot better than a mono sucky AM/FM), and then a matching truck to put it in. lol

Hey Darren, You think you could send a couple extra $100 since you got that used one so cheap. LOL Should be at least worth half of a new one. LOL
Thanks, Bill

Wow! Unbelieveable auction. I bet the seller is real happy with that one. I know I would be. Congratulations to the winner. I hope he has a truck worthy of a nice piece of GM history such as that. I wonder if he is a board member? Anyway, it was a fun auction to follow.

That's just totally ridiculous.

Does anyone know what the AM radio sold for? The last time
I checked it was $108.00.

Would I pay that much, no way!

But it does give me some perverted sense of satisfaction to know that somebody obviously cares enough about the value of NOS originality to fork over that amount.

I think whatever truck this unit is destined for will be something extraordinary.

Adam, I really don't think the sound quality of the unit was paramount in this purchase.

"New Sawz-all and Wally-World DIN radio - $139.99"
"Concours quality restoration - Priceless (or $1625 on ebay)"

I agree.

Assuming this person is restoring a truck to "concourse" standards, would it be worth $1,625 more than a "concourse" restored truck with an AM only radio?? I somehow doubt that.

Do people actually restore 67'-'72 Chevy trucks to concourse standards??????

Agreed. But I don't think ROI was considered with any more weight than sound quality.

I don't know the answer to that. However when you have a passion for something and enough money, it's not out of the realm of possibility. A concours quality restoration is simply judged as:

"All vehicles shall be judged to a configuration and appearance standard existing at the time and point of final assembly by the manufacturer. Presentation for judging shall be in a condition typically associated with delivery of a new car of the period that has received the then current manufacturer's recommended dealer new car preparation, exclusive of any dealer or owner inspired additions, deletions, or modifications, with the exception of accessories marketed at the time by Chevrolet Motor Division".

Again, not an easy goal to obtain, but an NOS AM/FM sure fits into this standard.

BTW, "Concourse" (sic) comes from the French term "concours d'elegance":

Main Entry: conˇcours d'eˇleˇgance
Pronunciation: (")kOn-"kur-"dA-lA-'gäns
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural conˇcours d'eˇleˇgance /same or -"kurz- "dA-/
Etymology: French concours d'élégance, literally, competition of elegance
Date: 1950
: a show or contest of vehicles and accessories in which the entries are judged chiefly on excellence of appearance and turnout

That price is freaking insane.

Heck, even a perfect AC cab or a SWB fleet bed rarley brings that price!

My less than $200 radio proably sounds 10x better and plays CD's too

Oh well....not my money!

Here is the sad part.
It is only NOS until it is installed and used.
Then it is just a "used" radio. Then it's worth about $300
Sooooo. . . . . .
Unless your going to keep it in it's box, and keep it NOS . . . . .
It's just another used radio!!!

Yes, Virginia, there is a concours restoration of a 67-72 truck

This truck is "beyond" the standard, as the true definition implies the same flaws as found on showroom floor.

Again, the economics of my world dictate these prices are nuts. But for someone of more means, is it outlandish?
