Sounds like tire rubbing, but its not

Working on my 79. Sounds like the driver rear tire is rubbing something. Pulled the tire and drum off, no marks. Fired up and put in gear, put a stethoscope on the outer bearing, sounds smooth. Put it all over the diff, sounds pretty smooth.

I installed a posi unit, but the noise sounds like its coming from the tire area.

Thoughts?

Re: Sounds like tire rubbing, but its not

Park brake not fully released.
Collapsed rear brake hose keeping rear brakes partially engaged.
Rear shoes adjusted too tight.
Check drums for heat after testing.

Loose exhaust parts rattling. Other loose parts rattling.

Re: Sounds like tire rubbing, but its not

Assuming it is up on stands, pull the tires, snug the drums with reversed lug nuts and repeat the test. If the noise is gone, suspect out of balance/out of round rear tire(s) or poorly fitting wheels. If the noise stays, pretty well eliminates tires/wheels as the problem.
