SWB bedside toolbox??
Last week, another board member was wondering if a toolbox on ebay would be a good deal or not. It was pretty much ruled that without a good door, any condition box and hinge is about worthless, and that the doors are getting very tough to find. My question.....
Could you get a bedside toolbox in a shortbed? All the boxes I've ever seen were in something other than a 115" truck. Was it available? When were they available? Just wondering. I kinda like 'em. ![]() |

never seen or heard of one myself. I think there are physical limitations because of the size of the area available in front of the wheel well. You could fab something up and have yourself a tool "cubby" just like the ones you stowed your gear in at daycare.

Now that I think about it, I dare say the same is true for saddle tanks? Never seen them on anything but 127 and 133". You sure got hosed on some cool stuff with a shortbox.

Tool box options were not available in the short box trucks from the factory. I don't believe the duel tank option was either, although that one is a little foggy. I have seen 2 and own 1 short 4x4 that has had both spair tanks installed. Both with the fillers not behind RV doors, but in the location that it would have been had it been factory. Both trucks are 4x4s and both are former forestry trucks. One for the state of Washington and the other for the state of Idaho. It is my beliefe that because the option does not appear on the glove box option sheet, that they are either dealer installed (doubtfull because dealers used RV doors), or most likely state installed.
Now the door on the tool box is 29 1/2" long and the front lower quarter on the short bed is 26" wide. So it would be impossible to retrofit one in the bed. Not at least without narrowing a door opening from a long bed, and also narrowing the box and door. I think that it would be cool, however I don't know how practical. Maybe something to do in someone's spair time..LOL You would be the only guy in the block to have one...LOL WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Thanks for the info.....
I've sunk way too much cash, time and effort into returning my truck to showroom stock to undertake a job like this and in my eyes, undermine the whole point of the resto. I do agree, it would be pretty cool, but pretty useless except for bragging rights. |
