Help...86 GMC intermittently dies
Any idea why my 86 GMC will just die while driving and start right back up as soon as I can reach the key. It is a 305 automatic, fresh plugs, and new gas filter. I can go several days without it dying so until it stops running completely I can't really fix it. If it was electrical it would die and not start back up as is the case when the ignition module goes out. Has this happened to anyone here and do you have a possible solution as to what is causing it to die? Thanks in advance

Re: Help...86 GMC intermittently dies
That sounds like a chaffed wire or a loose connection somewhere within the ignition system intermittently touching ground and shutting engine off. I would inspect all of the ignition system. For me, that is a starting point.

Re: Help...86 GMC intermittently dies
How far do you drive before it quits?
Could be just a cold intake. |

Re: Help...86 GMC intermittently dies
Could be an ignition switch about to die. Operating it after it dies makes a new connection spot until the next time.
Check the suction fuel hose(s) from the tank(s) to frame. If they are original, they are probably going to pieces and letting air into the system. I know from experience that can create intermittent running problems. |
