rescue trip 5/26/24 1956 pick up
guy at work casually mentioned a 56 truck his dad left him, partially disassembled, unknown condition. still at the dads building in another state. i said I might be interested if it wasnt a basket case, maybe $X? he said WOW with enough force that I didnt know if i had over bid or under bid, but the deal was struck. he got some pics and i doubled my offer, which made him even happier. made plans for yesterday and drove 6 hrs. he had a set of 58 15x6 6 lug wheels i picked up while i was there too

well with a new batt it started right the hell up. but if the leaky carb enforcement agency is here, i demand a lawyer.
I could rebuild it but aint nobody got time fo that! I ordered a chinesium replacement with good reviews.

Re: rescue trip 5/26/24 1956 pick up
well, i had other ideas at first. that first 56 i bought with the big window, it needed most of a truck to be complete and then i found the title wasnt worth the paper it was printed on. there was no body tag, the frame number came back to a 58. my best option was to find a complete 55-59. which i thought i did. but this one is so complete and unfettered by rust, just those two small cab corners. there is NO rust in the front clip, none. and you could have knocked me down with a feather when it started up.
my plan was to take the parts I needed, title it, then do the colorado frame swap on my big window. so now I may be looking for a local 55-59 and keep this together haha. good thing my big storage building is almost done.

That truck is in great condition. It would be a good head start on a frame swap but it's definitely tough to cut up something so original. Yeah, I'd probably keep looking for something else to ride on the Colorado.

A Colorado frame swap. I am very interested in that, such a modern chassis/ suspension. I'm sure the ride would be great, but yeah maybe not the right candidate? But hey it's your truck, and it wouldn't hurt the appearance one bit! I really enjoy your builds, insight, suggestions to others, good on you for the help and demonstration you provide.

Re: rescue trip 5/26/24 1956 pick up
joedoh, I just looked up the school on the door of the truck. It looks like that truck and mine probably passed each other on the road when they were younger. They might even have been neighbors! Back when I got mine I was able to contact NE DMV for that area and ask them to run a registration history. The folks were able to trace back to the original registration and they mailed the info to me. Maybe that's still possible today?
