looking for tools, tips and tricks. My second gear syn is shot. other than that it seems to work fine. I didn't see any issues with the gears when I had it open before installing it. What special tools will I need, and which kit would you suggest?

Thanks

Re: sm465

When you say second gear, are you counting L,1,2,3 or ,1,2,3,4?

This website in the link below has a great Identification chart.
If you think it may have been swapped at some point.

Re: sm465

Both These places have a good price for the rebuild kit.

The 2nd one has more parts and it's also About $100 more.

Depends on how much yours needs and how far you want to go with the rebuild.

Thanks for the links. Looks like I gotta tear the main shaft down completely to get to the second gear synchro.

Re: sm465

You need a press (a decent sized one) to get the main shaft apart, along with some spreader plates that will fit under the gear. 2 ( i think ) of the gears are held on by the main shaft bushings, so the only way to get it apart is to press the gear off and the bushing at the same time. You also need a strong pair of snap ring pliers.

Thanks. I'm not looking forward to this at all. I'm gonna swap my front and rear ends before I get into that
