55.2-59 59 gas pedal

My old pedal was in 2 pieces broken at the floor mount. New pedal is hard unbendable at the floor mount. (see pic) I need a way to connect the heel end to the floor. I was thinking a small hinge or maybe something like this part (see link) Manual only shows 55-57 or 8 cylinder I have a 59 235 https://www.classicindustries.com/pr...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

I think the pedal was pinned to the floor but can't remember exactly how. the bottom of the pedal is rubber and flexes, correct? maybe the pedal is it's own hinge?

Yes I think its a metal core coated in rubber. They always break at the bend . I'm going to call the link and find out what the distance between center is on the bracket and see if I can make it work. Theres nothing on my floorboards to indicate how it was originally attached. I cant even find a picture of an OEM set up. Seems that this bracket was used in 59 cars so it might be an upgrade.

maybe something like 2 little ball studs attached to a floor bracket that the rubber simply pushes over could be fabbed up if you can't find a manufactured part. somethinhg like the little ball joints found on a hatchback door strut could be repurposed? a couple of plastic balls that fit the holes in the pedal snuggly could be drilled through easily for an attachment screw to slip through?

I'd clamp the bottom where the screw holes are into a vise and force bend it back and forth to see if you can break it loose, but that's just me.

I'll call them and see what size the balls are. Dont see why they wouldnt work. Thanks Edit - just googled 64 chevy truck gas pedal and its the same one so it should work

It looks like the main difference is that the 55/59 pedal is rubber while the 54/66 pedal is plastic.

The hinge is embedded in the rubber, you have to break it free..

Looking at this one it looks like the 58/59 pedal is held down by screws rather than popping on the balls like the later ones.

I think it was the 64 GMC I had that had the pedal that was always popping off the balls because the part that went over the balls was worn out.

Republic made some pretty decent aftermarket rubber parts back in the day. They were sold though independent parts houses at the time.

On 57 to 59 Trucks the pedal does bolt to a Nut thats in the Cabs floor And One that is
in the Trans Cover , 55-56 Cabs had a Different Pedal assembly then that of the 57 and 59 pedals If you happen to have changed the cab to a 55-56 you wont find the screw hole for the pedal to mount to.
