Question Where's my Swaybar????

Just got my 72 back on the road after a long heitus, see previous post, "finally back on the road" took a long road trip, and noticed quite a bit of sway, especially with a load,, I looked under the truck,, (checking for leaks etc.) and noticed,, "Hey, I dont have a sway bar down there in front!" I also checked my 72 parts truck I got from Randy,, and it doesnt have one either? Was this standard for the 71-72 or another option that both trucks are missing. another question,, since I know have to find one.. whats a good truck to get that will bolt up? would like as much support as possilble for the front end... thanks!

no, they were not standard items on the 67-72 trucks. there is an option for them, though. steering stabalizer, if i remember correctly is the option name. anyhow, anything from 67-88 will bolt on up front. but you'll need the frame mounts to mount the center part. the vendors sell the bushings and hold downs, but they don't sell the frame mounts.

I heard the thicker the better. I think the standard size for a 1/2 ton was 1-1/16" dia. , correct me if I'm wrong. I got one at the boneyard for 80 bucks Cdn. I guess they added the use of their cutting torch to get the brackets off which are rivetted to the frame rails.

I pulled one off a C20 that was a 1-1/16th. 1-1/4 is the biggest. You can buy either bar from LMC, the big bar has to be bought from the 73-87 book. ECE sells the frame mounts, or atleast ones for lowered trucks. ECE sells the whole kit for bout 160 i think.

I agree low69. I got one from a friend that has a yard. I got it off a one ton and it was still a 1 1/16. I was dissapointed, but ol well. They arent to easy to find around here. I think you should be able to find 40 or lower for the lighter duty one.

You can still order brand new frame mount brackets from Chevrolet. I'm not sure of the part # but I got a set last year.
