First Outing
She fired right up, but the throttle bodies need some sync work. Once off idle it smooths out and AFR settles in nicely. When the plates are closed for idle, the sync becomes way more critical. A couple cylinders are to far closed and that jacks with the AFR which in turn confuses the computer and I get a 11 to 1 rich idle. For an off the shelf ECU and tune, FiTech is impressive technology. Think the venturi are a bit oversized. It's all in with vey little left after 1/2 throttle. I am going to experiment with different diameter stacks. Or maybe a eccentric throttle cable wheel. This is my first attempt with ITB on a 1st gen street engine. I had to add a few ports for sensors and additional vacuum lines and work out a remote idle control motor. Been a fun project as long as I remained true to my original expectations regarding Speedmaster. Their stuff is absolute crap but I got it at a super discount so I did not have high hopes. Many parts do not fit, and you have to add or modify things to make the parts work together correctly. But it looks cool.

Re: First Outing
I agree, it looks very cool. I would be interested in knowing more about your set up.
What does the induction side use for air filtration?

Re: First Outing
There are a few different type of single filters for each stack or you can create a air box. I would not use this set up in dusty conditions. Any dirt roads would not be advisable without a box. I've not used the discs I have as yet. I need to air balance/sync the throttle blades better. I did this because I've always wanted one of these setups but the rules for the racing I did got in the way to some degree. The computers today are easier to work with so I thought I'd give it a try, with full knowledge that it could be a bit dicey for street manners. These things rock on the track, as part throttle applications are still rather heavy footed where this likes to live. Patience will be required to tune in some lower RPM manners. These things are not plug and play. I often see them on street kit cobras so I know they can work. I just need to learn how.
I got to say, I do like the look. |
