E Brake cable HELP PLEASE
Hi there! I need some help sourcing this brake cable so I'm consulting the experts! I have a 68 GMC 920 with a 4spd. I don't believe that this is a stock brake setup because it connects to the transmission and brakes the driveshaft, I believe. If any of you recognize the cable in the photo or could help me source one, I'd really appreciate it!!!

Re: E Brake cable HELP PLEASE
TonyM, Many GMCs had a brake drum apparatus attached to the drive shaft for the parking brake.

If Inline Tube doesn't have it, I would call them, I think they will custom make/duplicate.

Call Control Cables Inc 562-949-0455, Ed has made several for me and did a great job. Also his turnaround is quick.

Re: E Brake cable HELP PLEASE
Hi. My Canadian Language proficiency is a bit rusty, but does ''920'' mean 3/4 Ton? And do you have an SM 420 in a Model Year 1968?
I have a '68 Chevy C/10 Stepside from Fremont, CA, w/L6 292 and an SM 465. I do think the Prop Shaft Hand Brake is cool. I had to R&R the E-Brake cable my '71 GMC Jimmy [350/SM465/NP205/12-Bolt 3.73] earlier this year. You have my sincerest commiserations...

Re: E Brake cable HELP PLEASE
I had no cable at all, so added a '66 handbrake to mine, we will see how it works.
I ran the casting numbers on my 292 and SM420 and discovered they are both dated from 1964. I don't think they have ever been out of the truck. I realize this sounds crazy, but I have this theory that Oshawa trucks were built with some NOS equipment from the previous generation. There are lots of 1968s here with SM420s in them, and I have yet to see a J76 option on a C10 or C20 that was not built in Canada. Would you post some pics for us, and maybe take a look at your casting numbers as well?

Re: E Brake cable HELP PLEASE
I have also heard the rumor that unused SM420s went to Canadian plants after the 1967 Model Year production ended, and were installed until they ran out in MY '69. Also that it was mainly in GMCs.
I have a junkyard score of an SM465/T221 Rockwell transfer case. Possible core for a future 292 powered '72 K/5 project. Fabricating shift linkage for the T221 is gonna be the most fun, ever. One year-only, 1968. They went to the quieter NP205 in '69. RPO code for SM465 was '' 1M20AJ 4-SPEED TRASNSMISSIO '' where you can delete the 1 and AJ as code fillers and add the N. [That's from my '71 GMC]. The RPO code in my '68 C/10 SPID is: ''04M20AL 4 SP TRANSMIS ION '' (Eroded letters) So M20 for the SM465. But then, the SPID entry on the glovebox door of my '67 K/10 Suburban is ''04M20GQ 4 SPD TRANSMISSION'' A Model Year 1967 truck would have had an SM420. No engine is called out, but an E[eight] in the VIN would've been the Base V8, The 283. Probably the T221, too. When I bought that truck it had been modified by the PO to a BBC 454 V8/TH350/NP205/12-Bolt 3.73. So M20 is also the RPO code for the SM420. Go figure. SPID-speak is weird. An early Robotic dialect.
