65 tie rod problem

I'm finally getting around to doing the steering stuff on my 65. I put a 84 box on with a Captfab plate. While putting it all together I had a hard time getting the center link to fit. Found out I put the idler arm spacer on the inside. Woops. Got that fixed and the center link was hitting the cross member. Today I got that fixed. Next up-tie rods. I have CPP 2 inch spindles and found out the new outer tie rods I got wont work with them. I should have known since I had to get newer ball joints. I read in a thread that the outer tie rods should be used as inners and just get the newer outers. The problem I have is that the grease fitting sticks out the back of the tie rod end and hits the cross member. Anyone have a part number or a source to get a couple of tie rods that the fitting comes out the side of the tie rod end? I'll try to ad a pic of what I'm talking about but my phone doesn't like this site. lol

Re: 65 tie rod problem

I only have the picture of my 62 with 63 axle,
in my case the outer ball joint moved inwards and the 73-87 ball joint moved outwards, but I drive the car bolt circle,
so the brake system is also affected.
Perhaps you can see a difference to your steering system.

Re: 65 tie rod problem

donthekawguy, don't take this the wrong way, but is the center link fully seated/pulled up tight on the pittman arm? It looks like that side could be sitting lower? My inner tie rod is pretty close to the crossmember but the grease fitting rides right above that lip on the crossmember.
