Power steering box noisy turning left??

1995 Sonoma steering box, 2004 ish truck LS steering pump.
Combination has been daily driver for over a year, the engine was out recently for some work, PS lines were disconnected. Refilled with new ATF. Driven maybe 1000KM since.

Since the engine went back in the steering box makes some noise and has slightly less power assist when you turn left of center. Fluid level is good and the fluid is not foaming up. Does the same thing if hot or cold. Box drives fine, no slop and no leaks.
Fluid that came out before the LS swap was more brown than red, same for what was drained at recent engine swap. Original Sonoma 2.2 PS pump was a bit noisy but working fine.

Can anyone tell me what is going on and what is likely to happen with it in future?
