Inline filter for quadrajet

I want to add an inline filter to the hard fuel line that is going to my quadrajet.
I dont want to cut the hard line if I dont have to and I thought there was a kit for this.

The best place for an inline filter is at the inlet of the fuel pump.. That line runs at near zero pressure.. If it should develop a leak, it will not spray fuel all over and start a fire..

I'm also considering a filter ahead of the fuel pump. I have a metal inline filter now because some ham-handed mechanic stripped the fitting that holds the factory filter and it's J-B welded on. Then I'd make a solid line from the pump to the carb, with a warning stating no user-serviceable parts are inside. I do my own work on this truck, but someday I won't be around to do it.

There should be a filter inside the Q-jet under the 1'' nut where the fuel line threads into. The easiest place for an inline is under the cab where the fuel line goes to the frame rail. Easy splice with the rubber hose. USE A METAL FILTER

Hmmm.............. looking around sheepishly after "repairing" the monojet inlet threads with JB Weld on my 71 C10.
In all fairness it wasn't I who stripped the threads. Wasn't until after the bad deed was done that I learned of the several repair options. Going on 11 years with the JB. Will be good loooooong after I'm gone.

FWIW, sometimes galvanic corrosion causes the threads to die. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

There's already a sintered bronze filter at the inlet, unless it's been removed. It's a decent filter.

If you want one at the tank - which if you're not clogging the carb inlet filter isn't needed - then the best place to connect is inside the frame rail where the rubber line comes over from the tank outlet.

You'll want a 100 micron or bigger filter. The big racing filters are nice - I have a Fram one if you want it - but it's overkill. Inline filters work fine, have a cleanable element and are easy to mount in the frame rail with Adel clamps. You can either cut the outlet and use an AN line to make the connection to the filter, or just use an AN-to-hose barb adapter.

This is the Summit filter I used; 100 microns at the tank, 10 microns at the carb.

If you're ever thinking of an engine upgrade, this is the point where you consider doing an electric pump at the same time...but certainly not needed.

Thanks for all of the great information. I was thinking about putting a filter like a wix 33003 or a metal filter etc inline so I can see any junk coming from the tank so that wont clog up the quadrajets filter but with the ideas from this thread I think I will put one inline along the frame rail. I need to do an oil change on the truck and when I am under there I will scout around and find a good place for one.

I don't ever recommend one of the clear plastic fuel filters under any circumstances. They fall apart. If they don't bust completely open, the fuel element breaks loose and floats around inside. They are the #1 most worthless thing you can possibly get from China.

Couldn't agree more! I just replaced an all metal Wix 33012 filter (before fuel pump) and decided to take apart the old Wix filter to see how much crud was in it. I was absolutely stumped ........... that filter was built like a proverbial tank. After wailing on it a long while I had to grind the middle seam off to get it apart. The filter element base was epoxied to one end and the other end had a nifty compression fitting sealing it. Virtually indestructible and well designed.
