Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
Could someone break it down the assembly order for this? I'm thinking I need studs because I cannot get the bolts in from the fan side o from the water pump.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
Save yourself mucho frustration and get the studs. It's 10 times easier.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
This. The last time I changed my fan clutch, I didn't know about the studs. Fiddly but I eventually got it. Told myself if I ever do it again, I'll get the studs.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
I used studs on my 67 327 as well. Much easier to line up the clutch under the shroud

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
You're not putting that spacer back, right? I believe those are only for flex fans replacing thermo clutch fans.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
Good point, that spacer should not be needed. The real test is whether the fan blades are roughly half-in, half-out of the shroud opening.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
I do need that spacer to reach half in half out position in shroud. Hope i can find studs that long. I'll look at NAPa because O O'Reilly only had two inches

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
I couldn't tell by the pic, and don't have the particulars off the top of my head.... But is there a chance you have a short water pump, and a long water pump might put everything right?
EDIT: This might help:

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
Well, the OP's '67 should have a short original WP -- but over the years, things can change.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
What's worse is that my fan clutch is about 1/2" from the radiator. That's the severe duty clutch, though, which has fins that stick out pretty far past the fan mounting flange. I ended up just making a shroud from a piece of aluminum strap.
We haven't seen the OP's shroud. Maybe the deeper 4WD shroud would work?

I agree. I've tried both ways and studs are definitely the way to go.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
If you do a search for 5/16 studs 1.25 inches long you will find several with the fine thread end longer than the course thread end. This is not ideal for a fan clutch instillation.
AMK has the correct hard to find studs available but has a minimum order of $30. Along with the studs I also bought some correct water pump, alternator, and power steering pump bolts to replace some ugly hardware store bolts. https://www.amkproducts.com/bulk-fas...oduct_ID=11003 |

Something is strange then . The long water pump would push the fan further into the shroud . I have this problem on my 72 it had a later model engine with a long water pump with the associated accessories brackets. The fan is not half in and out it’s completely inside the shroud . I’ll post a pick later have to go out to the truck Edit for pictures: It’s not optimal but the truck has never overheated even pulling the trailer .

FWIW, the OEM shroud on my K20 is right at 9" deep front-to-back.

Re: Clutch Fan Install getting mucho frustrated
It may be because my 400 sbc is back against the firewall. My plug wires literally rub against the firewall. Not sure maybe because I used the same motor mounts that my straight six 250 had.
