Hood insulation 68 C10

Did our trucks come with hood insulation? Just curious if my 68 C10 had it in its younger years.

Thanks!

I doubt it. My K20 was just 5 years old when I bought it. There's no indication that it ever had hood insulation. Be interesting to see what others say -- maybe as an option?

Re: Hood insulation 68 C10

I've been thinking about adding some to my 69 C10 for sound insulation more than anything. A buddy of mine used this on a 37 Chevy primarily to protect the paint. https://store.dynamat.com/products/the-hoodliner

Hard to say if it deadened sound any, but I will say it's still looks like new after 5-6 years and hasn't come loose at all. Might need two packs though to do a truck hood. Not cheap!

Re: Hood insulation 68 C10

I think putting on some sound deadening material could make the drive a little quieter, and of course if your putting it on the hood, it would need to be heat resistant so it would probably be the same material as a heat shield. Not that shielding the hood from heat would be its purpose. Has anyone here done it and can report on results?

Re: Hood insulation 68 C10

I haven't used Dyna Mat on the inside of the hood. But I have used similar products in my hot rods.
First a layer of Dyna Mat like stuff for the first layer on the floor. Then double sided foil with 3/8"to 1/2" of jute insulation between the foil. Then the carpet. Zero heat in the cab with headers.
On my 71 Corvette project to protect the fiberglass tub above the headers I used some insulation material from DEI. It's metal of sort that has kind of a waffle pattern on both sides with fiberglass insulation. It's bright silver but I bet you could paint it with the proper prep.

No. And I've had my '68 C/10 Stepside since June 1973.

On a '67 K/10 Suburban I ran from 1993 to 1998, a PO put some rubber ripple/silver material under the hood -- over a 454. It was decomposing. He lived in the PHX area -- where it gets even hotter than Tucson. I guess the insulation was for noise control.
