Re: Quick Question

I usually use the permatex aviation form a gasket, the brown stuff in the can with the brush under the lid. it works pretty well on threads that are not pristinely clean. just make sure the threads go into the water jacket as you go, otherwise, if it is just a blind hole with no coolant contact, use oil on the threads just to ensure lubrication.
some guys swear by the GM branded head bolt sealer. not even sure what it's called anymore. some guys swear by the newer Permatex® High Temperature Thread Sealant, which lubricates as well as seals and is intended for head bolts and other high temp uses. you could google the permatex page if you wanted to check it out

Re: Quick Question

Thank you .

It's been 3 decades since the last one I did , Small block Chevy head bolts .

Come to think of it that would work on the Small Block Chrysler water pump and timing cover bolts that go into the water jacket also .

Thanks again .

Re: Quick Question

A lot has changed in the sealer world since we were putting engines together on a regular basis. I went in looking for gasket sealer to use on a water pump gasket the other day and spent five minutes reading what the stuff was for.
