Carburetor cleaners
Yesterday I pulled apart a few Edelbrocks to clean for a friend, and rebuild the best one. They were greasey so I didn't want to mess up my carb dip cleaning that stuff up.
So I soaked 2 of them in purple power cleaner. The non acidic version, and they came out cleaner then the one I soaked in the carb dip. They just required a quick blow out with compressed air, and a spray with carb clean to displace the water. |

Re: Carburetor cleaners
How do you identify the non-acidic version when buying? Do you dilute it or use it full strength? How long did you soak?

Re: Carburetor cleaners
As far as i know, there is no acidic version. It is high pH. Caustic.

https://images.app.goo.gl/eeFUjZ6rG8pMsjUM8 Where i live. Home Depots Zep purple cleaner is acidic. Where the actual brand purple power is not. I did a 4-1 ratio or water/cleaner. My first run was 12 hours roughly. Which seemed to do everything I needed. I scrubbed it down with a short bristle paint brush. The gaskets that were stuck came up easy will barely any residue left. The remaining gas residue came off with a quick scrub, and spray of carb clean. All carbon was practically gone after a quick scrub. If you use the acidic cleaner it will mess up the finish. |
