Bumper Guards?

Was wondering if someone could tell me if the chrome ones from the ealier years (67-69 all chrome) would also fit the years 70-71 bumpers with parking lights? There wouldn't be a problem w/clearance or anything would there? Thanks!

Thumbs up C-20 Sway Bar

Hey Joe,

I have a factory front sway bar off my 72 C-20. It's the large diameter bar. I'll sell it for $45.00 plus shipping. You can still get bushings for it at any auto parts store for really cheap.

Let me know.

72longbed

Hey 72longbed,

If I buy the bushings from an auto parts store, does it come with brackets also, or do I have to provide those myself? Thanks!

Brackets

Joe,
Beleive it or not, those are STILL available from GM!! OR you can get them from any bone yard, up to 98 are all the same I think, or any of the aftermarket parts suppliers such as ECE, LMC, Brothers, etc., etc.. Very available.

Just for information: I think all of our C10/20/30 sway bars are the same 1 &1/16". You have to go to later models to get the big 1&1/4" bars...and all of them are not the big ones, either. Be sure and measure.
You know how to measure, don't you? "Measure three times and cut once"...or if it's like me: " I cut it too short, so I went ahead and cut it again, and it was still too short? I think that was supposed to be a little carpenter humor.

I thought that for our years the 1/2 tons had a 1 1/16" sway bar and the 3/4 tons had a 1 1/8" sway bar?

Excuse me, I don't mean to interupt the thread, but...

Someone showed me a really cool way to measure a bar:

Use an open end wrench and when the wrench you pick fits the bar snug, then that is the diameter.

Sounds really simple. Wish I would have though of that...

Good luck in the search for your front bar.

Thanks Frank for saying that, I've parted out alot of these trucks 1/2 and 3/4 and never found one a different size. I've never said anything because of everyone saying 3/4 was bigger. I'm glad you brought this to everyones attention. Mines got new bushings and brackets for $50 plus shipping. Thanks Randy

Well as long as I am on a roll: The Goodmark guards will be the short 67-8 style. They look good on any shortwide or lowered 1/2T (IMHO).
The 69-72s had the longer guards with the rubber in the front. A pretty good repro has been available for years. I think they look really good on a 71-2 GMC with the black grill...don't you?
...and here comes the pic
Wow, look at all that junk in the background. I need to clean house!

Yeah, I like the ones w/the rubber on them, but I do also like the all chrome ones. I just don't know if the all chrome ones will fit or look good with my bumper, the bumper w/the parking lights...
