Let’s Talk Drop Spindles
Hello all, I spent the last couple hours reading about drop spindles which has lead to some questions.
I have a ‘69 c10 and I’d like to do a front disk brake conversion. Since I plan to lower the truck 3/5 in addition to the disk brakes, the drop spindles make sense. Im hoping you guys can help with the following: - My truck has 15x8 4.0” BS truck rally wheels. I’ve read that some brands have interference issues with these wheels? Which brand won’t give me any problems with this? - CPP seems to be one of the more common brands. However I’ve read complaints that these increase the track width? One forum member claimed as much as 1.25” per side which is a lot! It’s not that I’m necessarily against a wider track, but I don’t want the front wheels to stick out further than the rears. Can anyone advise? - what is the difference between std drop spindles and “modular” drop spindles? I see both advertised online for a 67-72 but I’m not clear on what’s the difference or why I’d prefer one over the other? - I see that in general the front suspension kits are sold for 67-70 and separate kits for 71-72. What’s the difference? So if I want a pair of 2.5” drop spindles, that fit stock truck rallys, and will preserve the stock track, what do you recommend? Links would be helpful. Also, I see eBay selling drop spindles (no name brand) for as little as $140/pair. I assume I should stay away from these? Thank you!

Re: Let’s Talk Drop Spindles
I have a 1970 C10 that the previous owner installed CPP 2 1/2 dropped spindles. It had 15 inch wheels with a 6 lug disc brake conversion. No problems at all. I don't know about the width other than I never have noticed a difference. Front springs are stock, rear springs are 4 inch drop.
This conversion was done probably 10 years ago. New spindles may have changed. I have just recently changed to new 17x8 wheels with 4 1/2 inch backspace. Still no problems. 67-70 are 6 lug. 71-72 are 5 lug. Last edited by Hugh in NC; 03-15-2025 at 08:47 PM. Reason: add photo |

Re: Let’s Talk Drop Spindles
Hugh I basically did the same thing 2.5" CPP drop spindles 8" Rallys with 6 lug wheels no issues. I too did not notice any difference in width. Also went with 2" drop springs and 1" blocks in the rear with CPP disc conversion.
