15x7 smoothie wheels ?

I'm changing up the looks of my 55 and I'm selling the factory cucv gm 15x8 5in backspace wheels. I'm looking at some smoothie wheels that will accept the smaller style caps and I'm going to go with gloss black but not sure of white walls or not. The 15x7 wheels i find have 4in backspacing which I suppose is good for these trucks? Also will a 235/70/15 tire look ok ? I'd like to keep the 28in tall tires because of the factory gearing . Also any pics of your trucks with specs would be helpful as well !

Re: 15x7 smoothie wheels ?

I put Allied Wheels 15x7 Chrome Smoothies with BFG Silvertown P215/75R15 on the front and P235/75R15 on the rear. I wouldn't go bigger than the 235 on the rear. They just barely fit. Love the old school look.

Re: 15x7 smoothie wheels ?

That has a just right look old school hot rod truck look with those tire sizes. What you might have seen towing a car to the opening weekend festivities at Kent Pacific raceways in 1960 (Now Pacific raceways but also known as Seattle International raceways) or cruising the Renton loop on Friday or Saturday night.

Those 235 75 15 tires are 28.9 inches tall and 9.3 inches wide.

The front tires are actually taller than the 255-60 15 rear tires that I ran on my 48 for years. I'm thinking of going 215-75-15 all around with wide whites this time on the 48.

Tire size comparison chart to play with . https://tiresize.com/comparison/ Great for seeing what the dimensions for a certain tire are or how they compare to a different size.

Re: 15x7 smoothie wheels ?

ahh, c'mon. just post the pics boys. we all like seeing the trucks with standard size wheels and tires like the old days wouldda had.
15" wheels with the taller sidewalls will give you a smoother ride. its why i have 18" wheels on my '15 silverado instead of the 20 or 22". it still rides rough but better than the short sidewall tires would be like. it's also a personal/work truck. it does everything, hauls, tows, backs into the lake, goes into 4x4 land, etc.
thanks for posting the pics of your tire combos guys.

I hunted the Gripmax down and found them on Ebay 4 215 -75-15 for 484.91 and that is affordable. They show a bunch of other sizes too.

Re: 15x7 smoothie wheels ?

I ended up ordering a set of the Gripmax 215-75-15 wide whites off Ebay. I can mount and balance them myself and save that cost. That is well under half of what a set of Diamondbacks or Cokers was going to cost.

Re: 15x7 smoothie wheels ?

The tires I ordered the other day came via Fedex today and look good but are actually "Cadillac white walls" rather than "wide" white walls. Giving the look that were on late 60's and up into the 80's wider Cadillac whitewall that still has a narrow black band between it and the wheel. Still a classy whitewall look that was close to what I was thinking about the other day. I might have to dig out the set of NOS 70's Baby moons I have and run them rather than the hubcaps I planned on.

Then the Fedex dude made a deal with me for a tailgate off a 68 bed that I have out back for his truck.

I just went through the process of re-establishing my 67-72 forums account login and password just to say your truck looks great and I love that you have the COE grill--it looks great!
