Expansion Valve Tacky Tape

I purchased some Tacky Tape from Old Air Product. My AC is working correctly and not over heating the tubing. It runs at correct temperature. Does this tape require a catalyst after installation? I took about a 50 mile run today doing some ECU tuning and upon return noticed an odor in the garage after a few minutes. I opened the hood to this. Any ideas? The previous factory material never did this.

I bought that tape from truck and car shop years ago when I restored my AC. It still looks the same as the day I installed it, wondering if you got a bad batch?

Re: Expansion Valve Tacky Tape

So ~7 bucks on old air site plus 38 shipping. Amazon.com had it for ~11 incl tax and shipping, vender, old air. Hummmm.
It accorred to me that I now have twice the hp and way stronger electric fans. Engine is remarkably temperature stable. I wonder if under hood temps are elevated as result of fans pulling more calories out of radiator. I don't know. Those old big blocks would heat saturate like no tomorrow. I'm going to work this puzzle all night. Android watch sleep score going to tank tonight.

I'd say that you received the wrong product. My truck coolant has gotten to 260° and that tape didn't melt...and the AC wasn't running, which would have made it worse.

I tend to agree. The material installed about 2 months ago. Nothing noticably different from previous oem material likely 50 years old. Today it decides to melt. Got to say, this truck realy likes to mess with me.
